Garden Bar Salad Co.

For months I've been running by the little storefront that was previously occupied by Moreso. There has been a teaser in the window saying "Garden Bar, Coming 2014" with no other information. It's been killllllling me waiting to find out when they will open and what exactly the restaurant will be like. I popped out of the office in search of lunch a couple of days ago and to my delight Garden Bar had opened!

Look. How. Adorable. It. Is. Inside.

Very few places in Portland really bother to create any kind of atmosphere, Garden Bar was pretty much exactly what I would expect of a salad restaurant to be like inside - bright and cheery, kind of rustic, clean, and of course salad was on display front and center.

You have the option of purchasing a "Chef Salad" or building your own. I chose to build my own salad - there are endless combinations of delicious salad goodness.

Before I had even tasted my salad I was already planning my return trip.

I chose a salad with kale, hard-boiled egg, tempeh, garbanzo beans, jicima and peppers. I couldn't commit to a dressing, there were so many choices - so my lovely salad maker suggested Green Goddess, it went perfectly with my salad.

I was thoroughly impressed with the selection at Garden Bar, and the six coworkers who I sent by after my visit all were big fans as well.

If you'd like to check out Garden Bar for yourself, they are located at 25 NW 11th Avenue in Portland. Their website is www.gardenbarpdx.com. Their website isn't quite up and running yet - once it is, I'll update with hours of operation.

WineUp on Williams

WineUp on Williams very graciously hosted the last Portland Small Dog Meetup. We typically meet at a winery with a nice outdoor space, which isn't something that's really feasible in the winter here in Portland, what with the relentless rain and all.

It's a cute little shop that also does local winery tours. You can see the reflection of their wine bus in the window here.

It's really adorable inside, reminiscent of perhaps a medieval castle?

They have sooooooo many bottles of wine for sale.

Our meetup was downstairs, in their recently opened wine cellar. It was a great place for the dogs to run around and socialize, and for us humans to do a wine tasting.

Hailey reaaaaaaally wanted to take a seat like the humans and enjoy the special tasting menu that WineUp on Williams prepared for us.

Speaking of the menu - here it is

$10.00 for a flight was a great price. We all enjoyed the varied selection.

The dogs had a great time sniffing and wiggling at each other.

The hummus plate was delicious ($6.00)

If you'd like to check out WineUp on Williams for yourself, they are located at 3037 N Williams Ave in Portland. Their website is wineuponwilliams.com. They are open Tuesday - Thursday from 2:00pm - 9:00pm and Friday & Saturday from 2:00pm - 10:00pm. Happy Hour is from 2:00pm - 6:00pm daily.
